Chinese National Holiday

This week, China is celebrating its National Holiday. The actual holiday is on October 1st, but it is celebrated throughout the entire week.

This means that there was no school this week. My students should have been happy about this, but instead they were upset. Since they have an entire week with no classes, their Chinese teachers had no problems piling on the homework. They told me that all they'd be doing over the break was homework, homework, homework. I thought this was a little unfair for the students, but then I had to remind myself, Welcome to China...

Since I didn't want to stay in my apartment from weekend to weekend, I went into town to stay with some families from church.

It is really strange because the streets are currently so empty.
Usually, I can't take two steps outside without risking getting run over by a moped or a pedi-cab.
The streets are completely empty because everyone is inside.

Apparently, this holiday is a holiday where people spend time with their families inside
I went out to dinner last night at an Italian restaurant with a couple from the ward, and we were the only ones there. I'm actually surprised the restaurant was even open.
